Tips for Jump-Starting Your Car with Another Vehicle


To jump-start a car with another, it is best to get the two vehicles as close to one another as possible so the jumper cables can reach both batteries.
  • Turn the engine off, open the hood, grab the jumper cables.
  • Attach the red jumper cable to positive side of the powered battery. The other red cable to plus side of bad battery.
  • The black cable to negative terminal on power battery. Place the other black cable to bare metal surface of car to be jumped.
  • Now it is safe to start the one car and leave it running. After just a few minutes you can try starting your vehicle.
